Hi Vishwa,

Watch the ball carefully.  It doesn't matter too much when you hit the ball but make sure you are balanced when you are hitting the ball.  The ball will only swing one way with any stroke so the better you are watching the ball the earlier you will see what type of swing is on the ball.  Swing is cause by the ball having sidespin. If the ball swings from your left to right, when you hit it it will go off to your left and vice versa.

Whether you counterhit it or push it depends on whether it has a little backspin or topspin with the sidespin.  If the ball has topspin then you should counterhit it.  If the ball has some backspin then you should push it.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
