Serving
Hello,
I need some help with the Ma Lin ghost serve. Normally away from the table, I am able to generate lots of backspin, however the ball bounces high and slowly. Also, when i try it on the table the i have to do the serve at least 1.5m away from the table to make sure it touches my side and my opponents, and instead ofthe ball coming back, it makes a 90 degree curve, and i can swear im hitting it underneath! Also the ball have very little forward movement no matter how fast i brush it!
Could you tell me how to make my serve spin backs, fast and low on the table with more forward movement?
Thanks, Sally
Hi Sally,
It is important to focus on the angle of your bat when you are actually contacting the ball. It is easy to change this without knowing you are changing because you are focusing on hitting the ball. You may be able to video yourself to see what you are doing.
When you are close to the table, you are naturally worried about hitting the table with your bat and also worried about hitting the ball too long so you don't swing through the stroke.
This video gives you 3 tips for stopping the aggressive return. 1) Don't serve too short. 2) Keep the ball low. 3) Vary the spin.

there are a few tricks that i do to get more pace on the ball. a very usefull one is to get some wrist movement in there you'll get much more spin and pace on it
