Serving
Are there any advantages to the tomahawk serve that can't be achieved with the pendulum serve?
Hi Bada,
It is just a different serve. It curves the opposite way to a Pendulum serve so if your opponent doesn't like the ball curving from their right to left then it can be effective.
Some players find it easier to do to start with as well. Give them both a try.
In this lesson we show you how to execute the Backhand Tomahawk serve. This is a good complement to the Tomahawk serve. By utilising a similar action, it will make it difficult for your opponent to tell which way the ball and spin are going.

I have recently added the Tomahawk to my game because I found that I'm not proficient enough with the reverse pendulum to get that right to left spin with that serve. I think the Tomahawk is a pretty easy serve to learn and sometimes I feel like you can get some really funky movement on the ball.

I'm with you Jim. I use it a lot in doubles, especially when playing with a leftie partner. It means I can serve from close to the middle line and then get out of his way faster.
