Hi Kaustubh,
It is always difficult to keep calm during a big game.
Think about the feeling that you have when you get nervous. You may feel like your stomach is turning, your legs may feel heavy, your heart may get faster. All these are signs of being too psyched up.
To try to calm these feeling down you can do a couple of simple things. Focus on the process of what you are doing. Think about your tactics that you are trying to employ.
Take a deep abdominal breath and focus on your breathing.
Often we get nervous because of what lies ahead. If you can stay in the present you will start to eliminate this problem.
All of this of course is much easier said than done.
Give these simple things atry though and see if it makes a difference as to how you perform during a game.
The seventh building block of table tennis is sports psychology, an essential aspect of mastering the game. The first step is recognising your emotions during important matches. Understanding how pressure and nerves affect your performance allows you to develop strategies to stay focused and in control.
By strengthening your mental game, you can handle high-stakes situations with confidence and perform at your best, no matter the challenge.
