Bless you for sharing it!

It was very helpful to my wife and I. We are we have both played a lot as kids, and thought we really knew how to play, but this video showed us that we really did not learn from the pro's, and we love your videos so far. The fact that you share them with us proves to us that you !HAVE YOUR HEARTS IN THE RIGHT PLACE!

This video was extremely helpful to us in our quest to learn "How to hold the paddle".

Very good video for beginners.

I just wanted to point out that, although I have accustomed to spinny serves, both by myself and my opponents, it's a good thing to practice with basic non-spinny serves for a long while. In fact I'm regularly playing training matches with no-spin serves to practice rallies. Here are some reasons why I think a beginner (and all of us) should not dismiss no-spin serves:

  • if we want to vary such serves, it can only be done through placement and speed
  • one learns to play short serves by opening the bat and pushing a ball close to the net and to play fast serves by closing the bat speeding up the motion and let the first bounce be close to our edge of the table; this is a good preparation for real serves with backspin and topspin
  • with spinny serves we usually only think of variation in spin, or we mess up the variation in placement and speed because we never learnt the basics and started with spin first
  • basic serves lead to easy returns and rallies so you learn to be ready for the next shot
  • in contrast, learning spinny serves can lead us to rely on winning easy points on serve; from a certain level onwards this will not work anymore and then we have never learnt to rally
  • still the variation of slow/fast to forehand/middle/backhand gives us the advantage of anticipation and this is how we should think about serving

So, in retrospect, I'd want to play competitively using basic serves instead of spoiling myself with convoluted serves. What do you think about that idea?

What is  the point in spin?undecided

Anantha Hegde

Hello ping skills . can you please make a video on how the returns for spinny services will be . I'm unable to understand boomerangs on my service properly .

(Also if possible can you also tell me that when a spinning ball strikes the rubber does it grip and start spinning the opposite way or it grips and still keeps spinning the same way )

This video is very good in explaining the serve.  It also shows to those who don't do the serve correctly how one could get to the point of serving the ball correctly.

Sir,

how can we make the serve more faster ?

Margie Hadden

Margie Hadden Posted 8 years ago

This was a very good break down of how to serve and very useful for me coaching players with intellectual difficulties. Keeping the hand close to the ball etc. I especially like the idea that as the ball is thrown up the bat stays low and ready to be driven forward when the ball comes down. Thank you!
